Why do I need a warranty?

Why do I need a warranty?

Epoxy and Polyaspartic residential garage floors generally come with a warranty, just like most large purchases do. Let’s talk about your floor and when a warranty would be important.

We need to understand that an Epoxy/Polyaspartic floor will wear over time. Think of it like a road, the better the road construction the longer the road will last but all roads will experience some wear from the top down. Poorly constructed roads will experience failures below the asphalt if the roadbed is not properly prepared. Epoxy/Polyaspartic floors are no different; you will experience wear over many years, (which is expected and can easily be fixed), but if properly installed you will never experience a below surface failure.

What can fail?

73% of Epoxy/Polyaspartic floor failures are a result of improper floor preparation. This can be from inexperienced installers, improper equipment, lack of moisture/temperature testing, poor quality product or as we see often…..simply a rushed “get in get out” job.

Most warranties cover “adhesion failure” of the base product to the concrete. If there is going to be a bonding failure, you will generally see this within the first two years. If no issues present themselves by that time, it is highly unlikely you will have a bonding failure as the mechanical bond of the base product with the concrete has been achieved.

We often get calls from people who have had a floor installed by someone other than Strong Bond and they have experienced a failure of sorts. They have been unable to get any response or satisfaction, from the company or franchise brand that installed it or, they are no longer in business. The repairs required may be a simple repair or could be as large as having to remove and replace the entire floor. While Strong Bond can repair the floor, it unfortunately is going to cost you and defeats the implied warranty you were offered.

Faster is not better!

We also see many cases where floors are being installed with the quick “get in, get out” one day job which uses a Polyaspartic on Polyaspartic system and then experiences a failure a year later and the contractor is nowhere to be found. See our article on “one versus two day installs” on why we do not believe in this “rushed” type of installation and how we feel it only benefits the contractor. We also often see misleading advertising with companies using the word “Epoxy” in their advertisements but never actually use Epoxy.

How much warranty is reasonable?

Some companies try to impress you with a long warranty period; in some cases, much longer than the company has even been in business (ie. 15, 20 or even 21 years). Be aware that your warranty is generally for adhesion only and if a failure is going to happen, you will likely see it in the first two years or less. A Strong Bond Residential Garage Floor is backed up with our 5-year warranty.
